A Tradition of World-Class Concerts
About 130 concerts are held at Tampere Hall every year, with the very first such event being held in the Spring of 1990 when the facilities were still being tested. The performer that day was the legendary Finnish rock star Juice Leskinen, who was giving his 40th birthday concert.
As if to symbolise the wide range of concerts that Tampere Hall would come to hold, the next concert was, in contrast, a classical music concert given by the world famous London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, held on August 20th 1990.
Tampere Hall’s ability to attract world-class performers became evident at the official opening of the venue in autumn 1990. This special occasion was made all the more memorable by performances by the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, the pianist and entertainer Victor Borge, the coloratura soprano Marylyn Mulway, the pianist Marita Viitasalo, as well as the English Chamber Orchestra conducted by the cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, who also gave an exquisite solo.
After this illustrious start, our performances have continued to go from strength to strength with truly world-class performances by world-class performers.
